Teen recovering after he’s shot in head with spear

WASHINGTON – A Miami teen is lucky to be alive after being shot in the head with a spear.

On June 8, 16-year-old Nasser Lopez and a friend were swimming in a lake near his house. The friend loaded a spear gun and accidentally touched the trigger.

The 3-feet long spear pierced Lopez’s skull right above his right eye and went through his brain.

During a three-hour surgery, doctors used rebar cutters and vise grips to get the spear out, The Miami Herald reports.

“It’s a miracle the spear missed all the main blood vessels of the brain,” neurosurgeon Ross Bullock told the paper.

The teen remains in serious condition and will be hospitalized for several months.
