WASHINGTON – A composite sketch has been released of the man police say impersonated a police officer and pulled over a woman last week in Silver Spring.
Montgomery County police say the man stopped the woman shortly before noon on May 2, told her to get out of the car and sit on the curb, then grabbed her cell phone and purse and took off.
The 39-year-old victim told police the man was following her on Avenel Road when he began blowing his horn and reaching his arm out of his window, motioning for her to pull over. When she stopped, the man yelled that he was police and showed her the badge he wore on his vest. No lights or siren were on the vehicle. The victim was not injured.
He was wearing a fake police badge, black cargo pants, boots and a vest, police say. He also wore a baseball cap with a police emblem. He is described as black, around 26, 5 feet 10 inches and weighing about 190 pounds. He had short, curly hair with tattoos on both arms.
The suspect was driving a small, black compact car with blue Maryland tags. He was last seen driving toward New Hampshire Avenue.
Police are urging the public to call 911 if a plain car attempts to stop them on the roadways.
