WASHINGTON – Attention all D.C. Powerball players: Check any purchased tickets because one player is $1 million richer.

A yet-to-be claimed $1 million ticket was picked in the Powerball drawing on April 11, officials say. The winning numbers were 16-23-42-44-47-PB 2.

The ticket was sold in the District at Mayfair Liquor on Georgia Avenue. The win comes days after an announcement that three Maryland educators won a split of the world’s biggest jackpot, $656 million, with Mega Millions on March 30.

Each of those winners took home about $35 million after taxes.

One D.C. player won a $250,000 split of that Mega Millions drawing.

“Big wins are always thrilling, for the winner and the city. Everybody loves a winner!” says Buddy Roogow, executive director of the D.C. Lottery in a written statement “We understand that such a windfall can be somewhat intimidating as well.”

The holder of the $1 million Powerball ticket has 180 days to claim their prize, lotto officials say. And Roogow encourages the winner the contact his office soon to discuss what happens next.

The happy news wasn’t limited to the $1 million winner. Mayfair Liquor will be presented with a $10,000 commission check for selling the winning ticket.

“The small businesses throughout Washington, D.C. who offer D.C. Lottery products also win with large tier prizes,” says Roogow. “We congratulate and celebrate with the store’s owner on being the latest D.C. Lottery lucky store.”
