Red top meter enforcement begins today

Tim Bracken, wtop.com

Have you noticed any of the District’s red top parking meters? Perhaps you’ve even received a warning notice for parking in front of one?

Starting Thursday, anyone not displaying a valid disabled placard or license plate will be ticketed or towed.

The new meters are part of an effort to improve access for people with disabilities to the District’s business and commercial areas. This means that only drivers with a valid disabled placard or license plate can park in those spots.

Traffic control officers have been stationed at various red top meters to provide info, answer questions and to encourage people to report fraudulent parking.

In January, nearly 400 red top meters were put in place throughout Southeast D.C.
