WASHINGTON — A Montgomery County, Maryland, school caught the attention of late night television with its “egg-stremely” messy fundraiser.
Fields Road Elementary School in Gaithersburg held a Read-a-Thon to help the school purchase standing desks, blue tooth speakers and more in support of its “Move More” theme.
To reach the goal of $13,000, principal Erica Williams and assistant principal Kristi Ricca engaged in the “Egg Russian Roulette” challenge, a segment frequently featured in “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
The game consists of having a certain number of eggs, one of which is raw, and the rest cooked. The players hit themselves on the head with the eggs at random, until one person gets egged.
The school was egg-stremely excited to meet its goal.

But there’s more. Jimmy Fallon found out about the school’s fundraiser, and with partner Reddi-whip, added $13,000 to the amount raised, making the total more than $26,000.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to school Monday because all of this happened Friday night. I haven’t had a chance to see any of my students,” principal Williams told WTOP.
“This money will really help our students and our school continue to work on trying to improve our student achievement,” she said.
“The thing that makes me so happy about this is we get to share a news story about something really great happening in the county where something really, really good has happened to a really good group of people, so that makes me very happy.”
