WASHINGTON — A Canadian gold coin found in a red kettle in Montgomery County, Maryland, will help the Salvation Army close its fundraising gap.

The coin has a face value of $50, but the Salvation Army says it may be worth as much as $1,200.

A donor put the coin in the charity’s red buck in front of the Giant in Cabin John, Maryland, on Saturday.

Donations this year have been behind 15 percent, the Salvation Army says.

Money raised through the annual drive helps families and individuals through a variety of services and programs.

Anyone wishing to donate, can do so online.
