WASHINGTON – Nearly two dozen pigs were killed Sunday in a Montgomery County barn fire.
The fire sparked at Spring Valley Farm, located on Darnestown Road. The fire happened in a non-hydrant area, and large capacity water tankers were brought to the scene, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer.
The barn collapsed shortly after crews arrived, and several farm structures were also badly damaged. Power lines came down during the fire fight, and one firefighter was injured, Piringer said.
