WASHINGTON — Two of the most popular Washington markets saw prices decline in 2016.
Meanwhile, median selling prices in the D.C. region set a December record, and the number of listings on the market fell for the eighth consecutive month.
Listing service MRIS reports the median price of a house or a condo that sold in Alexandria City in 2016 was 1 percent lower than 2015. The median price in Arlington County last year was down 1.8 percent from 2015. Arlington and Alexandria were the only local jurisdictions to see declines in 2016 prices versus 2015.
Prince George’s County had the best year regionally in 2016, with an 8.5 percent increase in its median selling price. The District saw a 4.2 percent increase in prices last year.
Region wide, MRIS reports that the median selling price in December was $410,100, up 3.8 percent from a year ago and the highest December median selling price on record.
New listings and the overall number of homes for sale continued to fall in December.
MRIS says 3,089 properties came on the market in December, a half percent drop in new listings from a year ago. Active listings throughout the region totaled 7,457 at the end of December, down 13.7 percent from a year earlier.
