WASHINGTON — Baltimore-Washington International Airport surpassed Reagan National Airport as the region’s busiest airport last year, and it keeps getting busier.
BWI had just 1.62 million passengers in January, up 6.7 percent from a year ago and a January record for the airport.
It was also the seventh straight monthly record for passenger traffic at BWI.
BWI significantly trails Dulles International Airport for international flights. But its international traffic has been growing rapidly, accounting for about 100,000 passengers in January, a 30 percent increase.
BWI had a record 23.8 million passengers in 2015, edging out National’s 23 million passengers.
