1 dead in tractor-trailer crash on Route 50 near Annapolis

WASHINGTON — Maryland State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left a Maryland truck driver dead Sunday morning on Route 50, east of Annapolis.

Police say a tractor-trailer carrying Cloverland Dairy products was travelling east on Route 50 near Cape St. Claire when the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on top of the guardrail.

The truck driver, identified as George Marvel Fooks of Salisbury, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown what caused the driver to lose control, but police say speed may have been a factor in the collision.

Police say the Maryland Department of the Environment personnel contained a small diesel fuel spill that occurred when the truck overturned.

All lanes of eastbound Route 50 and two westbound lanes remain closed and are expected to reopen within the next few hours.

Traffic is being diverted on the eastbound side down Buschs Frontage Road to Whitehall Road.
