WASHINGTON — The FBI has a person in custody it says is responsible for shooting incidents on Maryland’s Intercounty Connector and near the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland, as well as other locations in the D.C.-Baltimore area over the last two weeks.
An FBI spokeswoman tells WTOP early Wednesday that agents took a man into custody after a report of shots fired Tuesday night near the NSA at Fort Meade.
Tuesday afternoon, shots were fired on the ICC, about 12 miles from the NSA. Police say one vehicle was hit, and one person was injured by broken glass.
The Baltimore Sun reported that authorities were looking into whether the Tuesday shootings were related to a shooting at the Arundel Mills shopping complex last Tuesday, and two shootings Monday — one at a Wal-Mart in Laurel and the AMC Theater at The Mall in Columbia.
Amy Thoreson, of FBI Baltimore, said in a statement early Wednesday morning, “We believe the subject responsible for shooting incidents on the ICC, near Fort Meade Army installation and other locations around the Baltimore-Washington metro area in the last two weeks is in custody. We don’t have further information at this time.”
