Billy Hurley III announces his father’s disappearance

WASHINGTON — Billy Hurley III, a PGA Tour golfer and Loudoun County native, said in a Quicken Loans National tournament news conference Tuesday that his father has been missing for more than a week.

Hurley says his dad, Willard Hurley, Jr., has been missing since Sunday, July 19, from his Leesburg-area home.

“Last Sunday — nine days ago — my dad took some clothes, he took some cash, he got in his truck and he drove away and no one has heard from his since,” an emotional Hurley said.

Willard Hurley, Jr., was a police officer in Leesburg for more than 25 years, Hurley said.

“I hope he understands that, dad, we love you and we just want you to come home,” Hurley said in the news conference, adding that he hopes sharing the news will help people locate his father.

Hurley says his dad is not mentally unstable and he and his family have no idea why he left.

Hurley says he plans to play in the tournament “in hopes that is brings [his] dad home.”
