Man charged after firing gun at Reston Hospital Center

WASHINGTON — Police have identified and charged a 52-year-old man who they say fired a shot at Reston Hospital Center in Fairfax County earlier this week.

William Brock, of Loudoun County, was arrested Wednesday. He has been charged with felony destruction of property and shooting into an occupied building.

According to investigators, Brock went to the hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body, and fired a shot when he couldn’t get inside.

“He gets out of his car in front of the hospital and attempts to gain entry to the hospital. He finds the doors locked, so he apparently fires a bullet, a round at the glass doors, breaks the doors, gains entry into the hospital,” police spokesman Don Gotthardt said Wednesday.

He was convinced by hospital personnel to give up his handgun, and was taken to another hospital for treatment.

Fairfax County police say Brock remains hospitalized, under guard and with no bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
