How to get the most out of Memorial Day sales

WASHINGTON — Memorial Day is just around the corner, and it seems like every retailer has a big sale, but are they really good deals?

For the most part, the sales are legit, but you still need to shop for the right items.

Stay away from summer items like grills and summer clothing. Bigger and better deals for those items happen later in the summer.

But if you are looking for mid-weight spring clothing, many retailers are breaking out discounts between 20 and 90 percent.

And one more thing, you don’t always have to wait for Memorial Day weekend for these sales, some are happening now.

Here is a list of some of the deepest discounts set for Memorial Day:

Ann Taylor: Extra 40 percent off sale items.

Asos: Final reductions up to 70 percent off.

Banana Republic: 40 percent off your purchase with code BRTAKE40.

Cole Haan: Extra 30 percent off all sale styles with code EXTRA30.

Guess: 30 to 50 percent off select spring styles.

Home Depot: 34 percent off sales

J.Crew: 25 percent off purchases, including sale styles, and an extra 50 percent off final sale styles.

Loft: 50 percent off select full-price summer styles.

Lowe’s is expected to offer 50 percent off.

Neiman Marcus: Up to 40 percent off new sale arrivals.

Nordstrom: Up to 70 percent off sale items.

Old Navy: 40 percent off all orders.

Ralph Lauren: Up to 40 percent off spring sale items.

Saks Off Fifth: Up to 70 percent off summer styles and up to 85 percent off designer items.

Topshop: Up to 30 percent off select spring styles.
