Macy’s Backstage opens at Mall at Prince Georges

WASHINGTON — The Mall at Prince Georges, in Hyattsville, Maryland, continues to add new retailers as part of its yearlong makeover.

Macy’s Backstage is holding an Aug. 26 grand opening for its store at the mall, which is near the Prince George’s Plaza Metro.

The store had a soft opening last weekend.

Macy’s calls the Backstage brand a cross between a department store and an outlet. It is part of the existing Macy’s store at the mall, but separate on its third floor.

There are other Macy’s Backstage locations at Dulles Town Center and Lakeforest Mall.

Backstage joins other new retailers at The Mall at Prince Georges that have signed leases within the last year, including ULTA Beauty, Designer Shoe Warehouse and H&M.

Mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust started a $30 million renovation of the mall last fall. The entire renovation won’t be complete until 2018, but when it is, the owner says 73 percent of nonanchor space will include new storefronts.

The Mall at Prince Georges opened in 1959. It was last renovated in 2001, when Target joined as an anchor and interior renovations were made.
