Jury in case involving Freddie Gray won’t be sequestered

BALTIMORE — The jury in the case of one of the officers charged in the Freddie Gray case will not be sequestered but will remain anonymous, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The Baltimore judge heard the final arguments from prosecutors and defense attorneys before the first of six trials in the Freddie Gray case begins next week.

The trial for Officer William Porter is scheduled to begin Monday. He is one of six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died a week after suffering a spinal injury in a police van. Porter is charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office.

Judge Barry Williams declined to limit the number of character witnesses that will be allowed to testify for the defense.
