Police: Suspect arrested in Alexandria homicide

WASHINGTON — An Alexandria woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a dead man was found in an apartment.

Jessica R. Deneal-Whalen, 27, is in custody. After a nightlong investigation, detectives determined the victim — Raymond A. White, 51, of no fixed address — and Whalen were together at the residence, along the 5300 block of Bedford Terrace.

According to a news release, Whalen became upset and assaulted White. The victim’s injuries appear to have been caused by strangulation. The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

On Monday, a woman walked into the South County Government Center and said a dead man was in her apartment.

Along with the woman, officers and Fairfax County paramedics went to the apartment and found White.

The woman is being held for questioning; a preliminary investigation shows there was a prior relationship between her and White.
