Tulane RB accused of hitting another student

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tulane running back Rob Kelley has been charged with simple battery and simple robbery after authorities say he struck another student and took his bicycle.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/1q0mfUw ) that Kelley, 21, was arrested Aug. 4 and posted a $10,000 bond at a court appearance that day.

Kelley’s attorney, Scott R. Bickford, says in a statement that there was never any intent by Kelley “to either harm the alleged victim or deprive him of his property.”

Kelley, a New Orleans native, has been away from the program due to academic issues, and the school issued a statement Monday night suspending the senior from the team.

Kelley has made six starts in 38 games with Tulane, rushing for 1,038 yards on 253 carries.
