WASHINGTON – Now that the election dust has settled, it’s time to focus on what really matters: weekend fun. Celebrate photography, buy some handmade goods or honor America’s veterans.

A laser light show and fireworks usher in a new season of ice skating at Rockville Town Square Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Live music from the Dan Haas Trio will help get the party started. The event is free, but skating is $8 for adults, $7 for kids under 12 and $3 for skate rentals.

Saturday marks the opening night of FotoWeek DC. Now in its fifth year, it will feature photography from local, national and international artists. Events are spread throughout the week at different venues in the city, including embassies, galleries and museums. Entry to the launch party is $55, but most of the exhibits are free. It’s that time of year again. The eighth annual Crafty Bastards Arts and Crafts Fair kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. The outdoor event will feature local and regional vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry to one-of-a-kind screen prints. Admission is $5 at the door, but Friday you can buy two-for-one tickets online. Kids get in free. Crafty Bastards is located at Union Market in Northeast D.C.

It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit. Montgomery County is welcoming the season with a new 30-foot-tall installation in downtown Silver Spring. “Holiday Destination” is an eco-friendly structure made from bottles donated by residents and visitors. Each bottle was spray-painted by local artist Julia Vogl to reflect the diversity of the area. The grand unveiling is Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free to the public.

Celebrate Veterans Day with Chicago and Kansas at the American Freedom Festival Saturday evening at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Proceeds from the benefit concert go to aid veterans and current servicemembers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $39.50 and can be purchased online.
