O’Malley: Change The Name – Gov. Martin O’Malley told an interviewer he thinks it’s time to change the Washington Redskins name, which many contend is a racist slur against Native Americans. Team owner Dan Snyder has said he will never change the name and is embarking on a media push this week to defend it. The Redskins, of course, play their home games in Maryland. [WAMU]

Bethesda Startups Get State Venture Funding – Bethesda-based KoolSpan, a mobile security encryption company, and Bethesda-based BrainScope, a company developing neurotechnology for assessing traumatic brain injury, each received investments from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development’s Maryland Venture Fund. KoolSpan received $400,000 and BrainScope got $300,000. [Washington Business Journal]

Westfield Montgomery Hosts Tax-Free Shopping Week Events – Westfield Montgomery mall (7101 Democracy Blvd.) is planning a number of back-to-school and tax-free shopping week events for next week. The Pop-Up Style Suite will offer one-on-one complimentary styling sessions on Sunday, Aug. 10 and Saturday, Aug. 16. There will also be $100 giveaways, back-to-school fashion displays and an Instagram contest to raise awareness of school bullying. [Westfield Montgomery]
