Man fatally shot on walk in downtown Federalsburg

FEDERALSBURG, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police have made an arrest in the killing of a 25-year-old man shot while walking with his cousin and two children in downtown Federalsburg in Caroline County.

Fifty-five-year-old James Bolden of Federalsburg is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 25-year-old Timothy Darnell Smith. It’s unclear whether Bolden has an attorney.

Police say Smith was shot Tuesday night as he walked with his cousin and two children to downtown Federalsburg store. Moments after police responded, Smith collapsed and officers tried to revive him. He was pronounced dead soon after at a hospital in nearby Seaford, Delaware.

Investigators say they tracked a car seen in the area of the shooting to Bolden.

Police have declined to discuss a motive or whether Bolden and Smith knew each other.
