Six months after we learned gourmet grilled cheese was on the way to downtown D.C., the debut is almost here. GCDC, promising gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, tater tots and booze, among other offerings, is set to open April 11, The Washington Post reports.
GCDC’s daytime focus will be grilled cheese sandwiches with unexpected flavor combinations, like the “Kim-Cheese-Steak,” with bulgogi, kimchi and cheddar. Starting with happy hour, the menu switches its focus to charcuterie, cocktails and cheese plates.
It doesn’t take long to make a grilled cheese, of course, but it can take a bit longer to get a restaurant that serves them open. GCDC was initially expected to be melting cheddar at 1730 Pennsylvania Ave. NW., just a couple blocks from the White House, by February.
