Broadway’s 4 TDs lead Louisiana past Southern

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Terrance Broadway threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another to lead Louisiana past Southern, 45-6, in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.

Broadway threw a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes and Louisiana took a 24-0 lead into halftime and moved past 14-year NFL veteran Brian Mitchell on the school’s career passing yards (5,498) and passes completed (404) list.

Jamal Robinson caught five passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah McGuire ran for 129 yards and one score on 13 carries.

After stopping Louisiana on its first possession of the second half, Southern used a 10-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a touchdown pass from Austin Howard to Bradley Coleman with 8:54 left in the third. Kyle Yonke missed the extra point, leaving the score at 24-6.

Broadway found Robinson for a 7-yard touchdown about 4 minutes later, ending any threat by Samford.
