Toledo soars past New Hampshire 54-20

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Phillip Ely passed for 337 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes in his first start and Toledo trounced New Hampshire 54-20 on Saturday night.

Ely, an Alabama transfer completed 24 of 34 passes for the Rockets without an interception, while Kareem Hunt gained 136 yards of the total Toledo rushing effort of 314 yards.

New Hampshire of the Colonial Athletic Association jumped in front of Toledo 14-3, but the Rockets scored twice in the final six minutes of the second half on Ely’s 64-yard touchdown pass to Corey Jones, and Hunt’s 2 yard TD run. Toledo, of the Mid-American conference ran away with the game in the second half and limited the Wildcats to only 37 rushing yards on 31 carries.

Sean Goldrich passed for 291 yards, completing 27 of 39 attempts with two touchdowns for New Hampshire, which was ranked pre-season No. 4 in the FCS and was expected to be a formidable opponent for FBS member Toledo.
