BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Tevin Coleman rushed for a career-high 247 yards on 23 carries to lead Indiana to a 28-10 win over Indiana State in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Hoosiers used a steady dose of run plays to wear down the Sycamores defense. Indiana State was able to keep the game close by taking care of the ball and stopping the Hoosiers twice on fourth down inside the red zone.

D’Angelo Roberts also ran for 129 yards for Indiana. Coleman’s output was the fifth-best rushing performance in school history.

The start of the game was delayed nearly an hour due to a rain storm that moved through the area about 20 minutes before the scheduled kickoff at noon. Fans were temporarily evacuated and the teams were sent to locker rooms until the storm passed.
