WASHINGTON - Anne Arundel County police say a home in Linthicum was burglarized while a man impersonating a water company employee distracted a resident.
Police say on Friday morning, the man approached a resident of the 200 block of Hammonds Ferry Road and said he was investigating a water leak. He followed the woman back to her house and checked several areas. He left after a few minutes.
The resident noticed some items were missing from the house, police say.
Police believe a second person was involved and may have burglarized the house while the resident was distracted.
The Hispanic man was described as about 5-foot-8 and weighing 220 pounds. He was wearing a blue baseball hat, a blue shirt and tan pants.
Police say a second, similar crime was also reported last week.
Anyone claiming to be an Anne Arundel County employee should be able to provide identification. Residents should call the county agency if the visit was unscheduled or to call 911 if the visitor makes residents feel nervous or suspicious.
Anyone with information about the burglary on Hammonds Ferry Road is asked to call investigators at 410-222-6135.
