WASHINGTON – Age is but a number when it comes to wine and cheese, but researchers in Finland say they might be able to recreate a 170-year-old beer.
A research team discovered living bacteria in two bottles of beer from a shipwreck near the Aland Islands. The booze is believed to be from the 1840s, Reuters reports.
The two bottles maintained a pale golden color, and could have rose, almond and clove.
“Based on the chemical analysis we made of the beer and with help from a master brewer, it would be possible to try to make beer that would resemble it as much as possible,” Annika Wilhelmson from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland told Reuters.
