WASHINGTON — Most American workers don’t think they are getting paid enough, according to a survey by CareerBuilder.
But once they earn their desired income, which is around $75,000 annually, the workers tend to get comfortable in that bracket, MainStreet.com reports.
That’s likely because the $75,000 benchmark allows for home purchases and a comfortable lifestyle in most parts of the country.
For those looking to reach their target income, all you have to do is ask, research shows.
Some findings include:
- Most workers (56 percent) have never asked for a raise, but when they do, the success rate is high.
- Two-thirds (66 percent) of workers who asked for a raise received one.
- But women have been less likely to ask for a salary increase (38 percent) than men (49 percent).
More than three-fourths (78 percent) of survey respondents said they don’t need to earn $100,000 or more. However, 29 percent of men and 15 percent of women say that earning $100,000 would make them feel more successful.
