HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Two men and a 5-year-old boy are recovering after briefly being trapped inside their burning home.
Firefighters from more than six nearby departments responded to the rancher on 38th Street as flames shot from the back of the home.
Prince George’s County fire spokesman Mark Brady says high winds pushed the flames through the house.
“On the interior of the home, even though there may not be windows or doors open, the flow through the house is that of the wind outside,” Brady says.
The two men and boy inside escaped with some cuts and minor burns, Brady says. a firefighter also received treatment for a minor burn to his face.
“Certainly all of our firefighters are aware of the wind and the damage and certain challenges it may present to us,” Brady says.
In the Mount Rainier neighborhood, the fire response closed 38th Street for more than two hours.
“This is our third fire in 12 hours and two of them were most certainly made worse by the high winds, if not all three,” Brady says.
