Take a step back in time Friday and Saturday
WTOP's Tim Bracken reports.
WASHINGTON - This weekend is your chance to go retro. There are several concert options to take you back in time for a night.
Scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Birchmere, the Fab Faux will perform its renditions of Beatles classics.
The Fab Faux is a bit more qualified than your average cover band. All the members are music industry vets, most notably Jimmy Vivino, Conan O'Brien's musical director.
The Friday night performance is already sold out, but tickets are still available for Saturday night.
Watch the band's rendition of "I am the Walrus" from 2007:
Are the 80s more your style?
Local 80s-only cover band, The Legwarmers have been performing its own raucous blend of hits from Madonna to Bon Jovi for over 10 years.
The Legwarmers will perform Friday and Saturday at the State Theatre.
The Blind Boys have been around for more than 70 years and are known as living legends.
Gospel interpretations of the likes of Tom Waits, Prince, and Curtis Mayfield have bolstered the band's name recognition in recent years.
Watch the band's rendition of the traditional song, "Run On (aka God's Gonna Cut You Down')" below.
Bettye LaVette is a singing legend in her own right. After brief success in the 60s, she essentially dropped out of the music business, only to return to the limelight in the last 10 years with a string of new albums.
LaVette's 50-plus years of experience come out in her vocal performances. Her bluesy and soulful renditions of popular classics bring new depth and emotion to familiar music.
