Dee Snider rocking Broadway show tunes

WASHINGTON – Some Twisted Sister fans might think “we’re not gonna take it,” but the theatrical frontman of the legendary rock band has released an album of Broadway show tunes.

Dee Snider, known for his glowering persona, complete with makeup, is unapologetic of his love for songs from musicals.

“There are many who think doing an album of rocked out show tunes is pure insanity on my part. Apparently, they haven’t seen any photos of me from the ’70s and ’80s. Could I have been in a more theatrical band?”

Snider’s take on “Cabaret,” earlier this year raised some eyebrows.

His album “Dee Does Broadway” came out this week, coinciding with his autobiography “Shut Up and Give Me the Mic.”

Snider performed some high-powered duets, including “Big Spender” from Sweet Charity, with Cyndi Lauper. He and Clay Aiken share “Luck Be a Lady,” from Guys and Dolls.

Snider said he had one rule in choosing songs: They couldn’t be from rock musicals.

“No Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Hair, Rent, Rocky Horror. What would be the challenge in that.”
