Tennant: New direction for ‘Broadchurch’ season 2

Expect the BBC crime drama “Broadchurch” to go in a “very unexpected direction” in season two, says actor David Tennant.

Though he’s sworn to secrecy on the details, Tennant, who plays Detective Inspector Alec Hardy in the BBC crime drama, does say what won’t happen: “It doesn’t start with another body on another beach.”

Tennant also plays Detective Emmett Carver in “Gracepoint,” Fox’s “Broadchurch” remake for U.S. audiences that airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT. Playing the lead in two similar yet different dramas doesn’t feel as strange as people might think, though leaping from shooting one to the other is a bit strange, he said.

“Broadchurch” is due to return in 2015.

“It’s as gripping as the first season and yet it’s a very different type of story,” Tennant said.
