NBC to sell advertising on Comcast sports channels

A little more than a year after Comcast Corp. completed is acquisition of NBC Universal, the companies have announced that NBC-owned stations will start selling national advertising for four Comcast SportsNets cable channels, including Comcast’s Mid-Atlantic network.

NBC owns 10 local television stations, including WRC-Channel 4 in Washington.

The deal, with Comcast Sports Group, comes after a trial run with New England Cable News.

“Our regional sports networks have delivered a lot of value to advertisers because of the hard-to-reach male demos we attract,” said Comcast Sports Group’s chief revenue officer, Ray Warren. “By combining selected regional sports networks with the NBC-owned stations, we’re now able to create a complete local package with compelling cross-demo appeal for advertisers that is unprecedented in its reach.”

In addition to Comcast SportsNet Mid Atlantic, New England, Northwest and Philadelphia are included in the NBC Universal deal. Comcast Sports Group has regional networks in 14 markets.
