WASHINGTON– Montgomery County Police are investigating a single-vehicle,
fatal collision that occurred early Sunday morning in Olney, Maryland.
Police say the crash happened at approximately 4:11 a.m. Officers and fire
crews
responded to the area of Hines Road at Blossom View Drive for the report of a
collision. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford Explorer
driven
by Robert Walter Lee, 29, of the unit block of Whetstone Drive in
Gaithersburg,
was traveling east on Hines Road towards Georgia Avenue when for reasons still
under investigation, it left the roadway just prior to Blossom View Drive and
struck a tree and light support pole.
Lee was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
His
43-year-old female passenger, identified as Lisa Ann Smith of the 17400 block
of
Gallagher Way in Olney, was declared dead at the scene.
Detectives are investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a
factor.
