Pedestrian struck on I-270 in Montgomery County

WASHINGTON — A pedestrian is in the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 270 Thursday morning.

The crash involved a tractor-trailer and a car.

The man was struck around 6:30 a.m. in the southbound local lanes before the Montrose Road exit, shutting down the local lanes completely for an hour.

Pete Piringer, a Montgomery County fire spokesman, says the victim was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Maryland State Police say the man is expected to survive. They don’t know why he was trying to cross the highway.

No charges are expected to be filed.
