Pair of Yankees minor leaguers suspended 50 games

NEW YORK (AP) — Two minor leaguers in the New York Yankees’ system have been suspended for violating baseball’s drug program.

The commissioner’s office announced Monday that right-hander Andy Beresford and first baseman Leonard “Bo” Thompson were each banned 50 games without pay after testing positive for an amphetamine.

The 6-foot-7 Beresford is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 13 games (seven starts) for Class A Charleston of the South Atlantic League this season.

Thompson, drafted in June out of The Citadel, is hitting .209 with a homer and 10 RBIs over 22 games in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
