ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland elections board official says Republican Larry Hogan has indicated he will use public campaign finance funds for his general election campaign for governor.
Jared DeMarinis with the state Board of Elections confirmed that Hogan’s campaign indicated it would use public financing Wednesday.
Hogan will be eligible for about $2.6 million to spend on his campaign. However, both the state central committee for the Republican Party and local central committees could spend an additional $1.8 million to help Hogan’s campaign, for a total of about $3.6 million more.
DeMarinis notes that the state’s funds for public campaign financing will have less than it would take to fully fund a candidate again, unless the fund is replenished.
