ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — A Montgomery County police officer who was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic has been released from the hospital.
Police say the officer was directing traffic around a collision on the outer loop of Interstate 495 between Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue around 4 p.m Tuesday when the driver of a Hyundai veered into a lane closed to vehicles and struck the officer. Police say there was a confrontation between the officer and driver before the officer was taken to a hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, 58-year-old Reginald Eugene Taylor, has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He was also given a traffic citation for failure to control speed to avoid a collision.
It was not clear if Taylor had an attorney.
