Assateague State Park scores high on beach report

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — An annual report has given Assateague State Park’s beach in Maryland a “superstar” rating for water quality.

The Daily Times reports (http://delmarvane.ws/1jChxpw ) that the Natural Resources Defense Council says Assateague was among 35 popular beaches across the country that met the group’s standard for meeting federal safe-swimming guidelines in at least 98 percent of water samples since 2009.

Point Lookout State Park in St. Mary’s County also was mentioned in the report as having the high ranking.

The report ranked Maryland fourth out of 30 states for clean beach water in 2013.

Delaware ranked first. The report says Delaware’s Dewey Beach was among the “superstar” beaches in the United States.
