Local girl selected as Google Doodle contest finalist

WASHINGTON — Sometimes it pays off to sit and doodle. Silver Spring, Maryland’s Shashi Arnold, a fifth grader at East Silver Spring Elementary School in Montgomery County, is a finalist in the Doodle 4 Google competition.

The Google logo on its homepage often gets a new look or topical theme, called the Google Doodle. Arnold’s doodle made her one of the nation’s 50 finalists. Representatives from Google came to her school, according to Fox 5 News.

The winner of the contest will see his or her artwork on the Google homepage and receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for his or her school.

If you would like to help Shashi in the contest, you can vote for her doodle.
