WASHINGTON — Berlin, a small town in Maryland, is leading the competition of “America’s Coolest Small Town.” The contest put on by BudgetTravel.com ranks the top 15 small towns in the country based on votes on their site.
With only 24 days left to vote and 23 percent of the total vote, Berlin holds first place in the race against towns in states like North Carolina, West Virginia, New York, South Dakota and California. Another local town, Mathews, Va., lags behind in 11th place.
Last year’s winner, Lititz, Pa., is known for its historic background and Native American artifacts.
With a population of 4,563 and only 16 minutes away from Ocean City, Berlin prides itself on its historic downtown and reputation. The movies “Tuck Everlasting” and “The Runaway Bride” were both filmed there.
The last day to vote for the coolest small town is Feb. 25, when the winner will be announced. The town that wins will receive “bragging rights to the title of Coolest” as the description for the contest provides.
In order to keep the competition fair, the system only allows one vote per 24 hours per IP address, according to the rules. You have until 12 a.m. on Feb. 25 to support these local towns. Let the voting begin
