WASHINGTON – Lanes reopen in both directions on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge after an earlier fire caused traffic to stop Sunday evening.
WTOP has received reports that construction materials are burning underneath the bridge, sending a plume of smoke into the sky.
A Maryland Transportation Authority official said she had no information about what caused the fire or what was burning.
A fire engine put out the fire from above, and fire boats checked for falling debris on a barge below.
Fire crews have extinguished the fire. There are no reports of injuries.
