WASHINGTON - Two more fires will be added to the list of "incendiary" incidents being investigated in Laurel.
Personnel from the Office of the Fire Marshal in Prince George's County Fire and EMS department investigated the cause of a fire involving playground equipment and a fire at a long-vacant restaurant, according to fire department officials. It is believed that both fires are similar to seven others that fire officials say have been under investigation since March.
Fire department officials say the playground equipment was set on fire on Thursday, May 30, around 3:30 p.m. in the 14100 block of Bowsprit Lane, with damage estimated at $1,000. Shortly before midnight on May 31, officials say a fire was set in a closet of the former Bay N' Surf Restaurant. The eatery, which was located in the 14400 block of Baltimore Avenue, suffered fire damage in 2007 that led to its closing.
The county's fire department has worked with Prince George's police, Laurel police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the incidents.
There is a reward of up to $10,000, posted by the City of Laurel, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the crimes. Officials are encouraging citizens with information to call 301-77-ARSON (301-772- 7766).
