Aircraft carrier Bush to begin heading home to Va.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush is set to begin heading to its homeport in Norfolk.

According to the Navy, the ship was relieved in the Arabian Gulf by the carrier Carl Vinson on Saturday and should soon depart for home. The USS George H.W. Bush was deployed in mid-February.

The Carl Vinson will take over support of maritime security operations, strike operations in Iraq and Syria and theater security cooperation efforts in the area.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1Dtjtfg) that ships and aircraft from Hampton roads played a critical role in U.S. airstrikes against Islamic State group targets in Syria beginning in September.
