Md. student will have art on display in US Capitol

WASHINGTON (AP) — A high school student from Waldorf, Maryland, will have a piece of his artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

Congressman Steny Hoyer of Maryland announced Wednesday that Jekko Syquia will have his piece titled “Flowing Within” on display at the Capitol. Jekko will be a sophomore at the Maurice J. McDonough High School in Charles County next year.

His piece was selected to be displayed by members of the arts community in Maryland’s fifth district, which Hoyer has represented since 1981.

Other artwork from fifth district students will be on display in Hoyer’s office.

This is the 33rd year of the Congressional Art Competition in which students have their artwork chosen to hang in the Capitol.
