WASHINGTON — Manassas City police have arrested a man on a stalking charged after he approached several girls and tried to get them them into his red pickup truck last week.

Police say Joseph D. Briganti, 37 of Woodbridge, was arrested on a formal charge of stalking Wednesday evening.

A 16-year-old girl was running on Godwin Drive on June 11 at 6:15 p.m., when police say Briganti asked her if she needed a ride. The girl told police that she changed directions but saw the man in the red truck a second time.

She then ran to an area with other people around but the Briganti stopped his truck and ordered her to get in, according to a police report.

However the teen was able to get away and returned home safely.

Later that same evening, police say a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were walking near Godwin Drive and Clover Hill Road when Briganti yelled at the girls to get into his truck. The girls ran to a nearby home and were not harmed, police say.

Police say Briganti was being held without bail at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. No court date had been set.
