VSP to honor their fallen comrades

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia State Police is paying homage to the men and women who have died in the line of duty.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe will deliver the keynote address Thursday at the State Police Academy in suburban Richmond.

Special recognition will be paid to Master Trooper Junius A. Walker, who was shot and killed in March 2013. The 35-year member of the force was gunned down on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County assisting a motorist.

Sgt. J. Michael Phillippi will also be honored. He died in the line of duty in January.

A gallery at the academy contains the portraits of men and women who were felled while on duty.
