Former Anacostia supermarket to become dialysis center

Not much to report on the permit front this Friday, except this: A former Anacostia grocery store is being converted into a dialysis center.

Nearly 11,000 square feet of the Anacostia Warehouse Supermarket building at 1918 14th St. SE, acquired by Vienna-based Good Hope Investments LLC in November 2012 for $2.8 million, will be converted into a 15-station outpatient dialysis clinic with the capacity for nine additional future stations. The clinic will include exam rooms, home training rooms, offices and a staff lounge.

The building totals slightly more than 20,000 square feet, meaning there may be another lease or two to come.

Shortly after the market sold, the Washington City Paper reported the owner was in negotiations with “some national tenants” for the building, an option that does not appear to have panned out. The paper also noted that one advisory neighborhood commissioner said she’d be “very upset” if a dialysis center moved in.

One other permit to report from Thursday.

  • 2323 40th St. NW: Alteration and repair of an existing four unit apartment building, with the addition of a mezzanine and conversion to six units.
