WASHINGTON - Some much needed help arrived for more than 400 D.C. families, Sunday afternoon.

The Crowder Owens Food Bank with the help of the Washington Wizards and player Chris Singelton's The L.E.A.G.U.E Foundation handed out hundreds of baskets to under-served families in the Districts' Ward 5.

The baskets contained items such as cranberry sauce, corn, string beans, candied yams, and corn bread.

"All of the fixings for Thanksgiving along with a turkey," says Daniel Thornton, president of the food bank.

The event was part of a 15-year partnership between the Wizards and the food bank. Last year, Trevor Ariza was at the food bank to lend a helping hand with the baskets.

Thornton says the team's help makes all the difference in the number of families they can help.

"For a small food pantry we can't do all of this by ourselves. We need to partner with larger organization to make this happen," Thornton says.
