Zombie warning startles passersby in Virginia

MCLEAN, Va. – Are the walking dead taking over McLean, Va.? An electronic road work sign might make you think so.

The sign on Georgetown Pike just west of Interstate 495 displayed “Zombies Ahead Run 1” Monday morning.

Michelle Lee of Rockville, Md., pulled over to the side of the road and grabbed her iPhone.

“This is just hilarious. I have to take a picture and send it to my husband,” she says.

With a grin on her face, Lee says she only wishes she brought a zombie preparedness pack along with her.

At Scott’s Run Park, people enjoying a stroll were talking about the sign as well.

“My husband is big and strong and we think we’re ready for the zombies if we are to encounter them,” says D.C. resident Jenny Leavy.

On the other hand, the kids at this park planned for a potentially unpleasant encounter. Eight-year-old Will Henshaw of North Carolina says he would fight back.

“Get in a like boxing position and like spread your knees out and try to like dodge the zombies,” Henshaw says.

Six-year-old Jamie says if a zombie attacks her she will “get a stick and punch it in the head.”

The Virginia Department of Transportation says if it is their sign, someone might have hacked into it.

And if you’re curious about what was on the other side of the sign, here you go:
